Wittiz··14 min read

💡 Key Summary

✅ Big races run from late October into early November: Yeongjong, Chuncheon and Mokdong
✅ Some are already closed or on late sign-up, so check the official site first
✅ Missed the deadline? Cheering, next-season planning and virtual runs still make for a great fall

When the air turns crisp, "maybe I'll race this fall" starts to sound pretty good. But once you start looking, the dates and sign-up status are all over the place. This post is for runners hunting for the October marathon schedule in Korea, and it only lists races whose official sites I actually opened.

1. October 2026 Marathon Schedule: Confirmed Races First

Each race below was checked on its official website for date, distances and sign-up notes. Information is as of October 3, 2026.

Race (location)DateDistancesSign-up status
Newsis Sea Marathon (Yeongjong)Sat, Oct 24Half, 10K, 5KClosed notice Sep 13, then late sign-up; check site
Chuncheon Marathon (Gongjicheon)Sun, Oct 25Full, 10KJuly general sign-up; check if still open
Jeongseojin Ara Waterway (Ara Tower)Sun, Oct 25Half, 10K, 5KClosed (deadline Oct 2, 5 pm)
Seoul Donghaeng (Mokdong)Sun, Nov 1Half, 10K, 5KAdditional sign-up shown; check dates

The Chuncheon Marathon loops around Uiam Lake and offers the full marathon (42.195 km / 26.2 mi) and a 10K. The Newsis Sea Marathon takes 5,000 runners across the half, 10K and 5K, and the 5K has no timing chip.

The Seoul Donghaeng Marathon starts at 7:30 am at Mokdong Stadium with 5,000 spots across the half, 10K and 5K. Larger events such as the JTBC Marathon couldn't be confirmed this time, so those details are official website check needed. Plenty of other races aren't in the table, so open the official page for any race you like. Visiting runners should also check the official site for foreign-entry rules, since I couldn't confirm them.

Dates and sign-up status can change. Check the official site one more time before you register!

2. How to Read Sign-Up Status

Race sites use labels like "open," "late sign-up" and "closed," and they can be confusing. Find these four things first and you can usually decide: race date, sign-up window, distances and field size.

Steps to check a race schedule: find, verify on the official site, judge the status, then plan alternatives if closed
Steps to check a race schedule: find, verify on the official site, judge the status, then plan alternatives if closed

Keep these in mind when reading a status:

  • If a deadline time is listed, sign-up ends the moment it passes
  • A note like "may close early" means it can end before the deadline
  • Late sign-up may have very few spots, so check quickly
  • If the official site has no value, don't guess; contact the organizer

💡 Tip

Use schedule aggregator sites only to find candidates. Before registering, always recheck the date and sign-up window on the official race site, because details can differ between sites.

3. Which Distance for Your First Race?

Once you've found a race, pick a distance. The Edinburgh Marathon Festival says that if you can comfortably run 20 to 30 minutes without stopping, a 5K or 10K is usually a great starting point. For a first race, a distance you can enjoy to the finish beats an impressive one.

Where you are nowSuggested distancePrep time
Run 20–30 min nonstop5K (3.1 mi)About 4 weeks
Comfortable at 5K10K (6.2 mi)About 8 weeks
Steady at 10KHalf (13.1 mi)3–4 months
Plenty of half experienceFull (26.2 mi)4+ months

If you're new, try the Your First 5K: A 4-Week Plan or aim for 10K with the 10K in 8 Weeks Training Plan. Prep time varies a lot, so treat these as rough guides.

Worried about race-morning food? See our pre- and post-run meal timing guide. It's safest not to try new foods on race day.

4. Missed Sign-Up? Cheer, Plan Ahead or Run Virtually

If your target race is closed, don't sweat it. You have three options.

  • Cheer on course: pick up the race-day atmosphere and learn from the runners
  • Plan next season: check when next year's sign-ups open
  • Try a virtual run: run your own neighborhood route at your own pace

Once you've picked a race, set a small goal like "run 3 times this week" in the Wittiz app, matched to the weeks you have left. Swap cheers with a friend who's running the same race and the prep feels a lot lighter. If you missed the deadline, a Wittiz virtual race is a nice way to try the distance first, and the jelly you earn can dress up Moongti.

⚠️ Caution

If you feel chest pain, severe dizziness, a cold sweat or unusual breathlessness while training, stop right away and rest. If it continues, see a doctor. If you have heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes, talk to a medical professional before you sign up.

No race this fall? No problem. A loop around your neighborhood today is already training!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When does race sign-up usually open?

It differs by race, so check the official website for the sign-up window. The Chuncheon Marathon ran its general sign-up in July, while the Jeongseojin race closed on October 2, about three weeks before race day. Knowing when sign-up opens helps you avoid missing it.

Can I still enter a race that has closed?

Check whether the organizer opened late sign-up on its official site. The Newsis Sea Marathon, for example, reopened sign-up after a closing notice. Late sign-up can have few spots, and notices can change.

Where is the most accurate place to check a race schedule?

The official race website is the most accurate. Use aggregator sites only to find candidates, and match dates and sign-up windows against the official notice. If a value isn't on the official site, ask the organizer instead of guessing.

Wrapping Up

The order is simple: find candidates, confirm date and sign-up status on the official site, then pick a distance that fits you. Even if you miss a deadline, cheering and virtual runs make fall plenty fun.

This week, open the official site of one race you like and jot down its date and sign-up window. Whichever race you end up at, Moongti will be running right beside you!
